GHK-Cu is a human three-block peptide called glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (Gly-His-Lys, GHK) joined to copper. It was first found as a factor in blood and later described as a peptide involved in rebuilding tissue. It holds onto copper about as tightly as the body's own copper-carrying proteins, and it has been widely studied in research on skin renewal and tissue repair [1][3].
Rather than acting on one single target, GHK-Cu is described in research as a copper carrier and a signal that helps guide tissue rebuilding. Studies report that it affects the making and breakdown of collagen (the main protein that gives skin and tissue structure) and glycosaminoglycans (moisture-holding molecules in tissue), and the enzymes that remodel tissue along with the proteins that block them [1]. Reviews of gene-activity studies report that GHK affects a wide range of pathways linked to rebuilding and renewal [1].
GHK-Cu has the most skin research of the copper peptides.
